Our Lord Jesus, today PDF Print E-mail

In the first two parts of this series, we looked at our Lord Jesus’ role before He came to this earth and when lived on this earth. In this, the last part of the series on our Lord Jesus Christ, we look at what our Lord Jesus is doing today, post His resurrection.

Three days after Christ was crucified, He rose from the dead in a resurrected body. In His resurrected body, He was able to pass through locked doors. The Bible clearly states that our Lord Jesus lived on the earth for an additional 40 days after His resurrection, strengthening and teaching His disciples. He was last seen, ascending to the Heavens as He left this temporary abode and returned to where He truly belonged. And He promised to return again, physically. Our Lord is not dead, He is alive today. Though He lived many years ago and though He was crucified, He is alive today and forever more!

So what is our Lord Jesus doing today? Our Lord Jesus fulfills many roles at the same time.

  1. Jesus is above all powers and principalities – Ephesians 1:20-23. There are other lords, kings and powers in the spiritual realm. But our Lord Jesus Christ is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He, who was God in eternity, came down to the earth in order to become God over the powers of the earth. Everything on the earth recognizes His dominion and Lordship over the earth. And that is why, no demonic power can control us, because the One who is with us is greater than all else. Hallelujah!
  2. Lord Jesus is our advocate in Heaven – 1 John 2:1-2. We have an advocate who pleads our cases before the Supreme Judge, against our accuser and adversary. Let us place our petitions before Him and apply the salvation that He has gained for us, in all parts of our life. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).
  3. He is on the right side of God the Father, as our Lord – Acts 2:32-33 and Acts 7:55. He is positioned on the right hand of God. Our Lord functions today as part of the Holy Trinity, fulfilling His divine role.
  4. Jesus is now interceding on our behalf as our High Priest – Romans 8:33 - 34. Our Lord Jesus is praying on our behalf, even today. He intercedes for us, even at this moment as He is our heavenly High Priest. Only the Lord Jesus can intercede on our behalf today.
  5. Jesus is the Head of the Church – Colossians 1:18 and Mathew 16:18. No one, not the pastor, not the church committee, not the bishop nor the pope, no one is the head of the Church except for our Lord Jesus. The Church was built on Him.
  6. We must maintain unity for God’s glory and avoid all forms of division – Romans 16:17 and 1 Corinthians 1:10. The Bible advises us to avoid those who bring division amongst believers and the Church. We must have nothing to do with them. We must learn to be humble and submissive to authority. God can make us fruitful even in difficult circumstances. We must bloom where we are planted.
  7. Lord Jesus is soon coming as the groom of the Church (the Rapture) – 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 and 2 Corinthians 5:10. Our Lord will come for His bride, the church. And all of us who have done something for Christ will receive our rewards.
  8. Jesus will return as the king and ruler of the earth (second coming) – Revelations 19:7-9 and John 4:24. We await His glorious return. God seeks true worshippers and we must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Our Lord is busy right now preparing a place for us, making a way for us, interceding for us and preparing us to meet and live with Him for eternity. He loves us and is doing much for our sake. No detail of our lives is too insignificant, no problem too big that He cannot solve it. Let us trust Him with all aspects of our lives and wait eagerly for His return. The Spirit and the bride say, “Come Lord Jesus, come”.
