In this second part of the series on our Lord Jesus Christ, we look at the brief point in time when God became human and was called Jesus. The name given to Him by the angel that announced His birth, is Emmanuel, which means God with us (Mathew 1:23). Our God refused to be distant and aloof, choosing instead to rip apart the curtains of heaven and reveal Himself to us. That’s why He came to this earth, you know. He came to show us how our relationship with Him, as redeemed sons and daughters, really works. He came to lead by example.

Physical reasons why God had to become human

  • Humanity would not have been able to look at God in His Divine form and live. Exodus 33:20.
  • The Bible says that God cannot bear to look at iniquity. It would have been impossible for Him to look at humanity in His Divine form. Habakkuk 1:13.
  • The earth would not have been able to bear His greatness in His Divine form. Philippians 2:8.
  • Because God cannot communicate with us in His Divine form. Communication between people will only happen effectively when both speak the same language.

Spiritual reasons why God had to become human

  • The Bible says that God created us for His pleasure and He delights to have fellowship with us (Revelations 4:11). In Exodus 25:8, God expresses His desire to dwell in the midst of us. He loves us and does not want to just visit us and leave. He desires to stay with us, to dwell in us. Hallelujah! He became human in order to make that happen, so that we could have His presence in us constantly.
  • Satan deceitfully took dominion away from man, by leading him into sin. Romans 6:23, Genesis 1:26,27 and Genesis 3:1-4. Jesus came to return the authority to man. Jesus came as the last Adam (Romans 6). Jesus took back authority by not submitting to temptation, and by overcoming it through obedience to the cross.
  • To gain victory over Satan on equal terms. Philippians 2:7 and Colossians 2:15. Satan no longer has dominion over the children of God, because of what Christ did for us. Hallelujah!

What the Lord accomplished in His human form

  • He gave humanity the opportunity to become His very own. Our God could not connect and communicate with us in His Divine Majesty, so He became human. John 1:10.
  • Luke 9:1, He gave His disciples authority over evil. Today we too have that authority, James 4:7.
  • Acts 4:12 He brought salvation to all who would believe. He is the only way for salvation.

Our God had a purpose in making Himself human and that was to draw us closer to Him. He removed all that could possibly stand in the way of us finding Him. Hallelujah! Our part is to believe Him and put our faith in Him. God is indeed with us!
