Psalm 92:10 “But my horn you have exalted like a wild ox. I have been anointed with fresh oil”.

When we worship our Lord Jesus, we are not worshipping a God who lived at some point in history. He was, He is and He is to come! In the same way, our understanding of God is not a one-time activity. If oil can be fresh (as the verse above states), it means that the oil can also get old. A one-time experience is not enough. We must have a daily experience with God, because He will reveal Himself in different ways, at different times. Fresh oil also denotes revival – a new revelation, a new thirst, a new level in our relationship with Him.

The verse above also talks about ‘the anointing’. Again, it is not just a one-time experience, but something that happens every now and then. The anointing is given to us, to help us respond to God’s Word. If we didn’t have the anointing it would be impossible to have conviction. Conviction is necessary for us to stand firm in the face of opposition.

When, according to the verse above, will revival come? When the wild ox has 2 horns. The Ox will only have 2 horns when it is mature and has strength. The wild ox is said to be very powerful. All those who have seen a wild ox, have marveled at its rippling muscles, sheer size and its powerful horns. In fact it is considered to be one of the most powerful wild creatures currently walking on this earth. There are no natural predators to this mighty animal. Even the lion and tiger stay out of its way. Even if a lion or tiger did decide to attack a wild ox, it will always do so from behind, out of reach of the oxen’s horns. That’s how the devil acts around true children of the Living God. He always tries to attack us from behind because he is fearful of us.

What makes this animal so powerful? Where does its strength come from? Oxen are vegetarian, but it does not find strength in just grass and plants that are found on the ground. Oxen relish shoots, bulbs and roots that are found under the soil. It spends most of its day, sniffing the ground, looking for the food that satisfies. When it does sense a particular root below the surface, the ox will bend its head and body until it can use its horns and feet to dig up the soil and feast on the food it finds. This process of excavating its food itself is enough exercise to help build muscles, while the food that it digs up and eats, is also rich in proteins and minerals.

Similarly, the Word of God is the jungle that we roam in, looking for food for our spiritual bodies. There are two parts to God’s Word – ‘Logos’ or the written Word of God and the second is ‘Reima’ or the revealed Word of God. Reima is not available on the surface, you must search and dig it out. Your life will not have remarkable changes by reading God’s Word at the superficial level. With meditation, dwelling on and understanding God’s Word with the help and leading of the Holy Spirit, it is possible to receive new revelations in the Word of God.

In order for the wild ox to dig up its food, it uses its horns that are located on top of its head. The oxen bows down until its horns reach the ground and it is able to use it. It is not a comfortable position. Neither is digging God’s Word to find life-changing hidden truths. Only when we humble ourselves and diligently seek Him will we find it. Of course, our waistline would get in the way of trying to bend down that much. The modern Church’s is well fed with gospel messages enriching its diet every Sunday, in addition to television, radio, internet etc. The church hears the Word of God, but it does not exercise its faith or the Word that it hears. It is content to listen to a message and then carry on with status quo until the next message. That is a problem and must be overcome. It is only when we exercise our faith that we can convert the food that we eat into something that is useful for us.

By studying the ways of the wild ox, we can conclude that the way to spiritual strength is by searching and meditating on the Word of God in order to receive Reima and by chewing and exercising our faith with the nourishment that we receive. Then we will receive a new anointing, a new awakening, a revival in our spiritual lives which will touch those around us.
