Colossians 3:2-4 - Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
A song in church goes like this, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.” These are good words to live by, because one of the strongest deterrents against returning to your old way of life is to focus upon your Savior and future. As a believer, you have been promised eternal life, the hope of heaven, and the assurance of spending eternity in the presence of God. When you think about that, the trappings of this world begin to lose their appeal.
The next time you feel inclined to dabble with your old life, or feel weighed down by the worries of this world, or fear that you won’t make it as a Christian, remember to do these things:
If you allow these truths to occupy your thoughts, you will find it much easier to obey God and say no to the alluring, but damaging, enticements of this sinful world.
